ACRE, Inc. is Active Citizens for Responsible Expansion, an area-wide land-use watchdog group comprised of scores of residents, business owners, and community leaders who combine their efforts in monitoring land-use policies and proposals in the southern Lake County, Illinois region.

ACRE volunteers and donors have been instrumental in supporting the thorough evaluation of various land-use proposals throughout the area, and played a key role in supporting the objective fact-finding and expert testiomy regarding the region-wide negative impacts of a proposed super-regional shopping mall, which resulted in the defeat of the development proposal.

ACRE provides investigative results and insights for elected officials and others regarding the effects of proposed developments on area-wide traffic, crime, commercial sprawl, quality of life, and environmental impacts. ACRE encourages Thoughtful Planning that adheres to the character, complexion and in-place comprehensive plans of local communities.
